【Astorga】
Originally established by the Roman legions, this city became an important administrative and military center at the time. It once thrived due to its gold mines and is now one of the key stops on the Camino Frances. Our hotel is located in the old town, not far from either the Plaza de España (dating back to Roman times) in front of the town hall or the main cathedral. Enjoy a stroll through the city to experience Spain.

Sarria
A few days ago, We experienced the plains and mountain passes of the Spanish countryside. Today, experienced the endless hilly terrain! The pilgrimage route is not always a smooth ; it traverses the rolling hills of Spain, with varying elevations and different scenery at every turn. Naturally, the pilgrimage route has its challenges, attracting pilgrims from all over the world to embark on the journey. Today, the total ascent reached 1703 meters, the highest cumulative ascent in a day. Starting from a hotel at an altitude of 500 meters, the route’s highest point reached the 1335-meter Alto de Polo pass. The 40km uphill sections with sometime steep and sometime gentle slope tested the pilgrims’ endurance. After crossing the pass, the altitude gradually decreased to another pilgrim gathering town, Sarria.

【One of the Pilgrims’ Hotspots: Sarria】
If you want to complete the pilgrimage on foot and receive a certificate, the basic requirement is to accumulate 100 km. Sarria is 100 km away from Santiago, making this town a gathering place for many pilgrims. Some are just starting their journey, while others arrive travel-worn. Regardless of the method or route, conversations between people always revolve around the various experiences on the pilgrimage, making it worth experiencing.

【Notes】
Due to the gathering of pilgrims, booking accommodations in Sarria is relatively difficult. Hotels or pilgrim hostels are among our options, but we still maintain single or double rooms instead of dormitory-style accommodations.

Arzua

As our ride nears its end, we are getting closer to Santiago. Today is the longest distance and the second highest cumulative climb of 1573 meters. The continuous hilly terrain still challenges us. Leaving the town and entering the countryside, the shelters along the way have become the best spots for us to rest and interact. Each shelter has its own unique characteristics, adding a lot of pleasures to our journey. Arzua is a town where the Northern Way and the French Way converge, and it is famous for its cheese. The locally raised cattle and environment give the cheese a distinct flavor.

Santiago de Compostela
Faro de Fisterra
Traversing numerous hills and winding through city paths, we planned to reach the end of the pilgrimage route, the “Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela,” by noon on the last day of our ride. Today, we faced an elevation gain of 867m. As we got closer, the number of pilgrims on the road increased. The square in front of the cathedral was filled with the joy of reaching the destination, or quietly absorbing the atmosphere of the square. For many pilgrims, regardless of their initial motivation—whether it was a grand adventure, a journey to reflect during a low point in life, or a trip with a significant wish—we all completed it together.

After receiving our certificates, we parked at the hotel and drove for an hour to the westernmost point of Spain, “The End of the World - Faro de Fisterra.” After several days of green hills, the view suddenly changed to the turbulent North Atlantic bringing in moist sea breezes. Our journey over several days concluded here. We then drove back to Santiago, where we enjoyed a fine traditional Galician meal in an ancient restaurant, celebrating the successful completion of this UNESCO World Heritage pilgrimage in Spain.
