Hualien & East Coast Cycling Tour (North bound)

Pisirian: "Siri," in the Amis language, means goat. In the early days, goats were everywhere in the tribe. The tribe therefore was named "Pisirian," the place of goat husbandry. Over the past few years, the Pisirian Tribe has been losing its young and middle-aged generations. To take care of the children who receive insufficient and inappropriate care because their parents work in other places, the tribe has created the "PawPaw Drum" to educate these children and pass on the tribal culture with songs of their mother tongue.  

    
Yuchang Highway: It is one of the country's major transportation routes with a total length of 16.22 km and a width of 9 meters. It is the only highway that cuts through the coastal mountain range by tunnel (2.66 km long). The Yuli-Changbin Highway, which links Yuli in Hualien and Changbin in Taitung, has opened a new page for tourism on the East Coast.

County Road No. 193: It is the longest County Road in Taiwan, parallel with the East Rift Valley (Provincial Highway No. 9) and East Coast Road (Provincial Highway No. 11).  It’s the best route for cyclists. Along the smooth road and countryside path, let’s take photos with the beautiful landscape.

JJ Farm: It is located behind Hsiukuluan rafting center, covers an area of nearly ten hectares, rasing more than three hundred cattle and feeding them natural grass, although milk production is lower than general one, but the higher protein, and milk has little grassy smell.


Ruisui Hot Springs: The temperature of the Ruisui Hot Springs is about 48°C. The water is of a low-alkaline "Chloride-carbonate" type, and is also abundant in minerals such as iron and barium. After the water's iron content has oxidized into the atmosphere, a layer of muddy, yellow crystallized matter with a light, rusty aroma is left on the surface of the water. 

    
Danongdafu Forest Park: Covers an area of vast, about 1,250 hectares, boasting mesmerizing sceneries and recreation features. The park also features various recreation facilities such as bicycle trail, pond, walk path and many other family-friendly features.

  
Hualien Sugar Factory: It (Guangfu Sugar Mill) was set up in 1913 when Guangfu Township was called Mataian. During the Second World War, it  was damaged by bombing. After Taiwan Retrocession, Taiwan Sugar Corporation took over and renamed it as Hualien Sugar Factory, and this became the major sugar manufacture for east Taiwan.

    
The East Rift Valley: It is a long, narrow valley flanked by the Central Mountain Range to the west and the Coastal Mountain Range to the east. This is where the Eurasian and the Philippine tectonic plates collide, resulting in the creation of many fault lines.

Lintian Mountain Forestry Center: In the past, known as "Little Shanghai", was the fourth largest forestry center in Taiwan.  By 1918, the mountain forest area that the Japanese referred to as "Molisaka" was already being used for lumbering. Lintian Mountain's lumber industry continued after Taiwan gained independence from Japan, and came to an end in 1991, when natural logging was no longer permitted.
